Time; it can be long or short, filled with joy or sadness, be exciting or stressful. It can be so many things, but the real question is, how much do you have??? I’m referring to the “sweet spot” of time we get to fully enjoy the things we love. When you’re young, the concept of time doesn’t weigh on your mind and it’s hard to appreciate the beauty around you. On the flip side, if you’re in a stage of life that doesn’t allow you to use all your senses, it’s hard to enjoy the time you have. I’m talking about the years you get where you can fully appreciate and engage in life and participate in your dreams and goals.
How does this relate to design? To me, design is not just isolated to interiors/exteriors; design is everywhere. Shouldn’t your “life plan” be considered your best design work? My point is this, to start living the life you want and stop putting it off. Everyone gets caught up in daily struggles, and all those things you want to check off your list just get added to the next day’s “to do’s”. It finally reaches an intangible point and the iron is no longer hot for you to strike. I don’t want to grow old and utter the words, “I wish I would have”, and then not have the ability to change it.
I was told by someone much smarter than me, that if you’re not moving forward you’re going backwards. I don’t want to be in a position where I’m always looking back, where all my stories are about one particular time in my life. I prefer to face the future front and center while gathering wisdom and experience along the way . My hope is that you take my humble opinion regarding time and put action into making the most of yours. So, buy the plane ticket, build the house, fill out the application, paint the living room, cut your hair, learn French or whatever. Be your own project manager and design one hell of a Gouda Life!
